Heartbeat Drums

This is one of my favourite projects because of its link to music and how I was able to incorporate rhythm into the logo. Mike asked me to produce a logo and flyer/poster that he could put up around town to let people know about his drum class. Drumming with others has many benefits including a sense of belonging. I visited Mike’s drum class to take photos that we would perhaps use in his materials. We didn’t end up using those photos. But I did take some video while Mike taught the “Welcoming Song” to his students. Funga Alafia is a beautiful, simple and memorable West African song sung to express greetings of good health, peace, and blessings. I had the audio from this song in his class, which I took an exerpt and uploaded it to a visualizer (www.misha.studio) and used the wave formation to form the Heartbeat Drums logo. Now Mike has a story to tell to friends and potential clients about how his class was part of his logo, how everyone is welcome at his studio, and open the dialog as to what skills they can begin to develop in his class.
